My experience at the United States has been unique.

The people you meet during the experience and the things you learng along the process made me stay until my senior year and the graduation.

Living in a place completely different from my city, Madrid, Spain, made me learn there are millions of fun things to do besides the ones I was doing at home. It made me value the life at my home country in Spain, full of privileges and helped me grow up and mature, it was about time!

You also leave the United States not only with friends, but with your own family shaped by students from all over the world.

During the entire year you are always doing new things. Every weekend you could joing many activities like skiing, snowboarding, karting, going to the movies, and trips to Boston and Portland.

You could always play many different sports as long as your academic results were strong.

Honestly, you don’t really realize the importance of this experience until you fly back home and see how much you have changed and see everything with a new perspective.

I arrived at the school very excited and a little nervous because I have never lived away from home for an entire year. My first impression about the school was amazing. It has a huge campus, like the ones you see at the movies.

The first days after the arrival, the school took us shopping for everything we need for our rooms, helped us opening a bank account for our expenses, and arranged a lot of fun plans to get to know each others like going to the movies or bowling.

Once the classes started it was a little difficult since I was kind of lost at the school and didn’t know many people. Despite of that, each day it was better and I started making friends easily. Everybody is very nice in class even though the classes are long and we only have three or four each day.

The academic system is challenging so you need to study hard because almost everyday we have some kind of exam for some class.

Regarding sports is a little complicated since the volleyball season starts in August and I didn’t have the chance to join the team and was very upset at the beginning, but next season I will join the soccer team. There are many other sports like basketball, and in Spring I will play tennis, but you can also play softball or take P.E. class, or go to the gym.

Going back to the weekend activities, there are always things to do. We have gone to water parks, to the movies many times, malls in Dallas and even roller skating.

Regarding rules there are quite a few, and even though is hard to assume them all, eventually it is very easy to follow them and you realize it’s for our own safety.

The campus is always being expanded and right noew they are building a new baseball court and in the future they will build a brand new building, new tennis courts and an outside swimming pool

So far I’m really enjoing the school and I’m improving my English day by day. There are days I feel I would like to go back to Spain because I may had a bad day, but that’s normal I guess and then it’s all good.

I think the school is a great choice if you are a Christian, but if you are not I wouldn’t recommend it since there are many international boarders without those believes and since there are often prayers, they find it a little hard to be involved.

I hope everything goes as well as this first months and to improve my English every day.

This has been my experience so far.

This is my first year outside of Spain to study abroad. My second time in the United States since I already spent a summer in Chicago. Here you will find my comments about my experience in a boarding school in Texas.

After my arrival, I was a little lost at the airport since there where many options to enter the country and it took me a while to go outside. Once I found my luggage a school responsible picked us up to drive us to the school from Dallas airport.

As soon as we arrived I was suprised by the huge size of the school. I arrived at my dorm and start meeting my classmates who really helped me shettling in. Here at the boarding it’s being a great experience for me since being an only child is a good change to live with other 19 students. You learn to live with students from other countries and it’s an unforgettable experience because they become like your own family.

If someone has a problem everybody will try to help and you will do the same for them. Everyday we have activities and trips to different areas like movies, malls, restaurants or amusement parks.

About the classes at the beginning everybody is super nice since you are new and at that moment they all want to meet you, but you have to make friends since eventually you will be just like everyone else.

The classes are very modern since the school is very new, but the biggest difference with Spain is the close relation between teachers and students you find in the USA.

Sometimes and if you are lucky enough some of your teachers may even be your houseparent, the adults who live on campus with their families and are in charge of each of the dorms. They always give you great advice and help you get involved with the school.

Regarding sports, I have seen how serious they take it here in Texas. I play soccer and honestly, the American players are not as bad as you could imagine, they always try to be the best in each sport even we have more tradition in soccer in Spain and other European countries.

I’m also really appreciating how close the coaches are since that makes the school very familiar.

The last tradition I have experienced is Homecoming, and it was a lot of fun.

Studying one year abroad makes you learn to live by yourself, specially with the domestic chores, doing the laundry, iron it, keeping your room tidy, etc. The school is always on top ot that and appreciates your behaviour and the way you conduct yourself.

About the subjects, you get to choose your own and that’s a great advantage since everybody has their own strenghts and interests.

The academic system is also different from Spain and here you often have test and exams so you learn to study hard every day in order to obtain the best possible results. It’s also important to keep in mind you compete with American students whose mother lenguage is English so you have to work hard!

In conclusion, you can see how familiar the school is, how many friends you make, and how busy they keep you all the time with homework, activities, sports and trips.

I really recommend this experience since it will give you a great education.
