My experience at the United States has been unique.

The people you meet during the experience and the things you learng along the process made me stay until my senior year and the graduation.

Living in a place completely different from my city, Madrid, Spain, made me learn there are millions of fun things to do besides the ones I was doing at home. It made me value the life at my home country in Spain, full of privileges and helped me grow up and mature, it was about time!

You also leave the United States not only with friends, but with your own family shaped by students from all over the world.

During the entire year you are always doing new things. Every weekend you could joing many activities like skiing, snowboarding, karting, going to the movies, and trips to Boston and Portland.

You could always play many different sports as long as your academic results were strong.

Honestly, you don’t really realize the importance of this experience until you fly back home and see how much you have changed and see everything with a new perspective.

Blanca, 10th grade boarding schools in the United States, Texas

I arrived at the school very excited and a little nervous because I have never lived away from home for an entire year. My first impression about the school was amazing. It has a huge campus, like the ones you see at the movies.

The first days after the arrival, the school took us shopping for everything we need for our rooms, helped us opening a bank account for our expenses, and arranged a lot of fun plans to get to know each others like going to the movies or bowling.

Once the classes started it was a little difficult since I was kind of lost at the school and didn’t know many people. Despite of that, each day it was better and I started making friends easily. Everybody is very nice in class even though the classes are long and we only have three or four each day.

The academic system is challenging so you need to study hard because almost everyday we have some kind of exam for some class.

Regarding sports is a little complicated since the volleyball season starts in August and I didn’t have the chance to join the team and was very upset at the beginning, but next season I will join the soccer team. There are many other sports like basketball, and in Spring I will play tennis, but you can also play softball or take P.E. class, or go to the gym.

Going back to the weekend activities, there are always things to do. We have gone to water parks, to the movies many times, malls in Dallas and even roller skating.

Regarding rules there are quite a few, and even though is hard to assume them all, eventually it is very easy to follow them and you realize it’s for our own safety.

The campus is always being expanded and right noew they are building a new baseball court and in the future they will build a brand new building, new tennis courts and an outside swimming pool

So far I’m really enjoing the school and I’m improving my English day by day. There are days I feel I would like to go back to Spain because I may had a bad day, but that’s normal I guess and then it’s all good.

I think the school is a great choice if you are a Christian, but if you are not I wouldn’t recommend it since there are many international boarders without those believes and since there are often prayers, they find it a little hard to be involved.

I hope everything goes as well as this first months and to improve my English every day.

This has been my experience so far.

Dani, 12th grade boarding schools in the United States, Hawaii

My name is Daniel and I´m currently studying my senior year (12th grade) in Hawaii and it’s been undoubtedly the best year of my life. Since the first day I arrived everybody was very nice with me and made me feel at home. I´m playing soccer with the Varsity team as a striker and we have a great team. In February we will have the state championship in Honululu and we are confident we will be the best team in Hawaii.

Being a boarder student and living at the dorms is very fun. We have a living room where we all meet during the weekends, play videogames, listen music, order pizzas… On Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays the school drives us by bus to a local town called Waimea. There we have a mall with some restaurants, supermarket, stores, etc. We usually spend there around 3 hours and is very nice. During weekends the school also takes us to the beach, hiking, camping, surfing, visiting volcanos…

Regarding academics, the classes are very fun and dinamic and everybody is very friendly. Every night we have about 2 hours of mandatory study hall which is great to do our homework, prepare our essays and study for the exams.

On Sundays you can go to the swimming pool since it’s open all year long. If you are a 12th grade student, the school helps you with the College Counselor securing a place at American Universities if you want to study in the United States. Mine is helping me selecting colleges in New York since I want to study business there and I´m applying to 6 colleges in Manhattan. During the next months (now it´s January and I came back home to Spain for Christmas) I will receive all the colleges answers and decide where to study my 4 years of University.
